Cosmetic Gum Treatment
Too much or too little gum tissue can diminish a smile’s appearance. Fortunately, Dr. Laudenbach and Bhavsar are experts at all types of periodontal therapy in Philadelphia, and they use state-of-the-art treatments to comfortably sculpt or graft a patient’s gums to optimize the aesthetics of their smile.
Fixing a Gummy Smile or Uneven Gumline
An excess of gum tissue can make teeth appear short and create a “gummy smile,” or it can make the gumline appear uneven. The doctors use the Fotona® laser (see page 14) to gently trim the extra gum tissue away to reveal the beautiful teeth underneath. This treatment is called “crown lengthening” because it exposes more of the crown portion of the tooth, making it appear larger; this can also be referred to as a “gum lift” or “gum recontouring.” The doctors also perform crown lengthening in preparation for the placement of a new crown, veneer, or other cosmetic restoration to ensure an optimal end result.

Gum Recession Treatment
When the gum tissue surrounding the teeth recedes, the roots of the teeth become exposed. This creates a prematurely aged appearance, but it also makes the teeth more susceptible to damage.
The roots of teeth are softer than the crown portion, so proper gum coverage is essential to help avoid sensitivity, tooth decay, and potential tooth loss. The doctors perform gum grafting to bolster the existing gum tissue and restore proper gum coverage.
They then use Emdogain®, a gel that contains a mix of natural growth proteins, to speed healing and promote tissue regeneration.

“I had some gum recession, and my regular dentist recommended Dr. Laudenbach as the best periodontist around.Dr. Laudenbach is a very skilled and talented professional. He made sure I was comfortable during the procedure and addressed all of my concerns. I’m very happy with the result.”- Joan, Gum Grafting
